Toe-Up Sock Knitting Basics
2 Sessions:
September 24 12:30 - 3:00 PM
October 1 12:30 - 3:00 PM
This class will teach the basics of sock construction from the toe up, using a ‘vanilla’ sock recipe and a simple German short row heel turn! The first session will be focusing on casting on, magic loop knitting (optional), and toe construction. We will practice a simple cast on method for beautiful toes, and then start our socks! The second session will focus on turning a heel using German short rows, and how to finish your first sock.
Materials Needed:
When choosing yarn for your socks, I recommend a fingering/sock weight wool and nylon/polyamide blend plied yarn (single ply yarn is not recommended for a long lasting sock). You will need less than 200 yards for a small adult sock, so most ~400 yard skeins will make a pair of socks. Materials are available for purchase at Lula Faye Fiber - let us help you find the perfect yarn!
Needles:
Size 1 Circular Needles in 32”, 40”, or 47” (if you want to make two at a time in the future, the longer the cable length the better!)
AND/OR
Size 1 Double Pointed Needles (Magic Loop not required for this class)
Required Skills: Knitting and Purling
Suggested Skills: Knitting in the Round
